Nanjing is the oldest Chinese provincial capital. Millions of men have worked to extract minerals from over 150 quarries, and the result is an extraordinary morphological site.
The project brief was to restore and reclaim the site through environment intervention and to build new structures. The infrastructure will improve the old public transport, which will be renovated with a modern and sustainable system. The project work will not change morphological features, and it will help the naturalisation of the site and encourage the growth of plants and trees.
The master plan analysed environmental factors and operated to characterise the biosphere near the water and create a museum in the quarry, where homo eructus relics have been discovered.
